The ¡SUPER SKETCH! series is a hookup between artists and musicians organized by SUPER C۞L۞R SUPER. Every event brings the artists, the bands, the audience and the party together through the prism of a special concept or theme.

Super Sketch is a live platter of drawing, art, shadow theater, and psychedelic visuals performed on vintage overhead projectors.

The hands-on and analog projector art performances range from transparent puppetry to watercolor compositions displayed through classic classroom overhead projectors. Art runs throughout the night on multiple overhead hanging screens, in time with live music.

This Super Sketch will feature a unique collection of holographic art pieces unlike anything you’ve seen before.

톡톡튀는 프리즈믹한 컨셉과 테마로 아티스트, 밴드, 관객이 모두 함께 하는 비쥬얼 아트 파티이다.

라이브 음악 공연이 계속되는 동안 빈티지 프로젝터와 공중에 설치된 스크린을 통해 보여지는 라이브 드로잉, 그림자아트, 사이키델릭 아트가 함께 펼쳐진다.
초등학교 시절, 교실 안에서나 볼 수 있었을법한 아날로그 감성의 OHP 프로젝터와 오색 투명한 물감들이 뮤지션들의 라이브 공연과 어우러져

Marc Bianchi 의 1인 밴드인 ‘Her Space Holiday’가 오는 1월 내한한다. 어딘지 모르게 똑똑한 모범생같아 보이는 이미지의 그는 놀랍게도 캘리포니아의 하드코어 씬에서 뮤지션의 길을 걷기 시작했다. 그런 그가 다른 시도를 위해 96년 만든 솔로 프로젝트 밴드 “Her Space Holiday”. HSH의 음악은 어두운, 인디트로니카에서 시작했다. 하지만 2008년도 앨범 ‘XOXO,Panda and the New Kid Revival’ 에서 컴퓨터를 던져버리고 포크와 잼 사운드를 가져온 후 그의 음악은 좀 더 밝아지고, 듣기 쉬워졌다. 혹자는 그를 느끼하지 않은 Magnetic Fields 혹은 Radiohead 라고 하는데, 그의 음악을 듣고 있노라면 세상을 모두 슬로우 모션으로만 바라 볼 수 있을 것 같은 느낌이다. 그는 변화,사랑,죽음,부정,고백…그리고 이별에 대한 작고 섬세한 감정들을 예민한 외과의사가 수술을 집도하듯 하나하나 끄집어낸다.
그런 그가 마지막 솔로 프로젝트 앨범인 ‘Her Space Holiday’와 함께 마지막 투어를 시작한다. 이번 투어는 지난 15년간의 Her Space Holiday의 음악활동을 정리하는 기념비적인 공연이 될 것이며, 그의 팬들에게는 설렘과 아쉬움을 동시에 선사하는 처음이자마지막 내한공연으로 남을 것이다.

Change… love… death… infidelity… confession… a break up. Marc Bianchi/ Her Space Holiday is nearly surgical in his ability to slice delicate songs of love, loss, hope, despair, and optimism out of one very hard year. An authentic foray into intelligent dream-pop from the ex-punk artist. Featuring intricate string arrangements, analog synth patterns, lush guitar-like drones and tasteful drum programming abound, but it is the songwriting that elevates the album to its elite status. Traditional song structures take unexpected turns throughout, highlighting introspection and vulnerability most often missing in electronic music.
 

Korea is fortunate to be a part of history, as HSH/Bianchi announced in August that he has just finished the last ever Her Space Holiday album and these are his final weeks of touring.

Toro y Moi is back to Korea with an accomplice! Toro y Moi is the moniker of 24-year-old Columbia, Chazwick Bundick, backed by a full band on tour.  Toro Y Moi is constantly evolving. While heavily influenced by his parent’s vinyl and tape collection, the sound stays true to his contemporary influences of Animal Collective, Sonic Youth, J Dilla & Stones Throw hip hop, and Daft Punk, and cumulatively leading the new class of musicians deemed chillwave in genre. Last year’s “Causers of This” as well as the newer “Underneath the Pine” have drawn considerably praise and a ravenous fanbase, in Korea and abroad. His first shows in Korea this June garnered love from hundreds of fan as well as some kind print in NYLON Korea, and the cover of STUDIO 24. His newest EP “Freaking Out‘ just dropped with an 8 on Pitchfork and tons of dislocated shoulders from all the grabbage.

올해 6월에 와서 여러분에게 청량한 여름을 선사했던 그가 내년 2월, 다시 Super Color Super를 통해 다시 내한한다. South Carolina의 Columbia에서 태어나고 자란, 장난끼 가득한 얼굴의 24세 청년 Chaz Bundick (Toro Y Moi) 는 어린 시절부터 다채로운 악기들을 장난감 삼아왔다. 그의 음악 생활의 초반기는 펑크와 인디 락으로 메꿔졌으나, 2001년을 기점으로 그는 일렉트로닉과 더불어 다양한 장르의 음악들, french house, 80s R&B, hip-hop 등을 두루 섭취하며 자신만의 솔로 프로젝트에 집중하기 시작한다. 그래픽 전공 학생이었던 그가 the University of South Carolina 를 졸업하던 2009년, Chaz는 그의 음악을 완벽히 자신만의 스타일로 완성하는 데 이르렀다. 그는 Washed Out, Neon Indian 과 같은 뮤지션들과 함께 Chillwave 라는 장르를 보다 깊이있는 스펙트럼으로 끌어내고 있다. 6월 내한 후, 그는 Freaking Out EP에서 좀 더 funky한 요소를 그의 음악에 추가함으로써 추운 겨울 댄스플로어를 후끈 달아오르게 할 만한 리듬을 안고 다시 찾아온다. Vinyl Williams is a lifetime music venture by Lionel Williams. In the past there have been several live members, namely Bryan Lee on drums. The music is an attempt at “sonic matrices” which are combinations of sounds that beneficially affect the body. The process is enabled at frequency intersections, when certain tones, chords, and patterns are composited to induce specific (and usually unpredictable) qualities in the human psyche. On the surface, the music sounds like a whirlpool of psyched-out rock with glowing layers of krautrock, shoegaze, and mysticism. “Spacebeat” / “Shoegroove”. Two Gallants, who take their name from a James Joyce short story, are a duo hailing from San Francisco. Their sound is pure nostalgic Americana, weaving stories of loss, change and heartbreak amongst a folk twang and a heady simmering sadness. Having caused a huge stir in the San Francisco music scene and subsequently touring almost non-stop across America and abroad, Two Gallants have matured into a ‘Country Punk’ force to be reckoned with. Their live Shows tend to hypnotise the crowd- submerging them in a haze of sound and emotion.
Two Gallants is mad up of Tyson Vogel and Adam Stevens, who formed the band by playing street shows every month in San Francisico. Its these roots that lend a freedom and inhibition to their music. Their first album “The Throes” thrust them into the underground scene, and their follow up “What The Toll Tells” cemented their indie-darling status, receiving brilliant reviews and allowing them to perform across North America. This was followed by “Scenery of Farewell” a haunting EP, and “Two Gallants” their self-titled third album. The band has been praised for the depth and maturity of their music which digs deep into the tradition of bluesy storytelling.

자유로움을 외치는 두 명의 거친 영혼들!

가식적인 모든 것들을 부정하는 담백하고 솔직한 포크 인디락 밴드 Two Gallants가 수퍼컬러수퍼를 통해 내한한다.
제임스 조이스의 단편집 ‘더블린 사람들(Dubliners)’의 에피소드 중 하나에서 따온 이름이 인상깊은 샌프란시스코 출신의 밴드 Two Gallants.
이 밴드는 기타,하모니카 그리고 보컬을 맡는 Adam Stephens와 드럼,보컬을 맡는 Tyson Vogel로 이루어져 있다.
스티븐과 보겔은 그들이 21세이던 2002년부터 함께 공연을 시작했다. 사실 그들은 12살때부터 같이 곡작업을 해왔고 각각의 이름으로 음반을 self-release 한 적도 있는 친구들이다. 따라서 이들이 함께 공연을 시작하게 된 것은 매우 자연스러운 결과물이자 또다른 과정의 시작이었다. 이들은 2005년 Saddle Creek 레코드와 계약하게 되었고 같은 해 8월, 런던에서의 첫 해외 공연을 성공적으로 마치며 자신들의 가능성을 스스로 확인하게 된다. 이를 필두로 2006년, 최고의 라인업으로 화제가 되었던 섬머소닉 페스티벌 등의 점점 크고 멋진 투어 기회를 잡으며 미국,유럽 그리고 아시아에 자신들을 알려나가기 시작한다. 이 밴드의 가장 큰 특징이라고 할 수 있는 Adam의 불안정한 보컬톤은 빈티지한 질감의 기타, 그리고 에너지 넘치는 드럼 연주와 어울려 인디 포크락이 갖추어야 할 요소들이 꽉 맞물린 공연을 선사한다. 특히, 이번 내한 공연은 처음으로 ‘천안’에서도 펼쳐질 계획이므로 그간 SCS의 공연을 기다려온 천안 팬들은 이 날을 위한 락 스피릿을 단단히 비축해두시길!

MGMT를 세상에 내보낸 뉴욕의 천재 형제 듀오!
각종 미디어와 한국 팬들의 전폭적인 지지에 힘입은 12월 두 번째 내한 소식
 
올 4월, 내한공연 매진 기록과 함께 각종 미디어의 관심을 받으며 성공적 투어를 마친 French Horn Rebellion이 올 12월 다시 한국팬들을 찾는다. Milwaukee 출신의 Robert Perlick-Molinari가 친형 David Perlick-Molinari와 함께 결성한 French Horn Rebellion. 이름부터 독특한 이들은 뉴욕을 기반으로 한 일렉트로 팝 듀오이다. 어린 시절부터 클래식 음악 교육을 받았으며 French Horn을 연주할 줄 아는 동생과 미디 프로그래밍과 일렉트로 음악에 빠진 형이 그들의 능력을 합쳐 새로운 사운드를 정의해 내고 있다. 더구나 형 David은 MGMT의 ‘Time to Pretend E.P’의 공동 프로듀서였다. 이들의 음악에서 초창기의 MGMT, Friendly Fires, Phoenix 등의 뮤지션들이 떠오르는 건 그런 이유이다. 사운드와 엔지니어쪽에 심취해 있던 David가 친구인 MGMT의 첫 데뷔 E.P에서 엔지니어와 프로듀스를 담당하여 걸출한 듀오의 재능을 세상 밖으로 끌어내 보낸 것이다. 그 이후 MGMT와 한 곡을 더 작업하였지만 밀려드는 광고음악 작업과 갑작스럽게 몰려온 세상에 대한 근심걱정으로 음악의 발표는 무기한 연기되었다고 한다. 그 사이 MGMT는 메이저 음반사와 계약을 하여 완벽하게 콘트롤된 일렉트로 팝듀오로 전세계를 향해 뻗어나갔고, French Horn Rebellion은 최신 유행의 리프와 리듬을 계속 연구하며 끊임없이 진화하는 사운드로 그들만의 독자적인 길을 만들어 가고 있다. 그런 그들의 행보를 놓고 뉴욕 타임즈에서는 Next Big Thing으로 선정하였고, 영국의 Guardian은 오늘의 신인밴드로 뽑았으며 NME에서는 유행에 민감한 이들을 위한 음악이라고 호평하였다. 뿐만 아니라 영국 BBC 라디오 차트에서는 1위를 거머쥐었고, 프랑스 음악 전문지인 les inrocktuptibles에서는 금주의 싱글로 꼽았다. 그렇게 점점 수면 위로 떠오르게 된 형제 French Horn Rebellion은 프랑스에서 가장 Hot한 컴필레이션 Kitsune Maison Vol. 8에 ‘Up All night’을 첫 번째 트랙으로 수록하면서 전세계적인 주목을 받게 되었다. 더불어 국내 유명 카메라 광고에 이 곡이 사용되면서 관심이 집중되었고, 지난 4월 첫 투어시 국내 일렉트로 뮤지션과의 콜라보레이션 등 다채로운 음악활동을 펼치며 한국에서도 큰 인기를 누리고 있다.

The brothers Perlick-Molinari are a cocktail of MGMT +Giorgio Moroder among others influences in the form of FRENCH HORN REBELLION. The Brooklyn-based duo already had an illustrious pedigree; David produced MGMT‘s indie release, Time to Pretend EP for New York indie Cantora Records, and with previous single “Up All Night” they scored a Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1 and an opening slot on the influential KitsunÈ Maison compilation series; a big deal for a virtual unknown. The band have also remixed the likes of MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD and Alex Winston. 2010 also saw tours with Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells and Cut Copy to name a few before leading them here to Asia with MGMT in China and Singapore and then for a HUGE show at Rolling Hall this last April and exclusively with SUPER C۞L۞R SUPER
 
Following packed out NYC performances at CMJ, the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival and in support to MNDR at the launch of new Neon Gold / Popjustice party POPSHOP, FHR will visit Europe in March for a handful of shows before heading home to play SXSW and then on to Asia for shows in Hong Kong (w/ MGMT), China, Korea and Japan.

Dan Deacon is a guy, a composer, an electronic musician, and a founding member of music and arts collective Wham City! . His music is bursting at the seams with wild sounds and an almost OCD attention to detail- a constantly evolving panorama of sounds= trippy, jaunty, hallucinatory stuff. He fuses strange rap, chants, noises, video games, fun and bizarre electronica to create a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of sound.

Veteran of many bands and projects spanning the musical spectrum, he is currently signed to Carpark Records (with Label-mates including Toro y Moi). Deacon is an electro pop genius who is particularly famed for his live performances. He translates the blazing madness of his music into no-holds-barred live extravaganzas, with audience participation being high priority. Overflowing with charisma, His fervour for music of all types is impossible to deny and his albums and shows serve as a passionate exaltation of sound.

Finally, Mogwai are coming to Korea! After years of enticing by SUPER COLOR SUPER and Korean labels, the Scottish post-rock mega titans make their much-anticipated first debut appearance this November.  The post-rock titans are known for being at times misty, ethereal, and haunting, and others times explosive, apocalyptic, riding tight lines between motion and stillness.

Being named after the mythical creature of Steven Spielberg’s monster movie Gremlins, Mogwai’s jet-engine loudness also holds a  light-heartedness and sly humor, such as their cleverly-titled latest album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will (2011). There’s a schizophrenia in their sound which allows them to share the bill with the likes of Aphex Twin, just as easily as with The Cure, while still maintaining their own broody splendour.
 

Mogwai have built themselves up as one of the quintessential bands for their genres. While they remain faithful to the post-rock aesthetic they pioneered in the 90s, they are unshackled by  genre – crossing over into motorik, metal, shoegaze, mathrock, and electronica. Mogwai takes their music seriously, but never loses the verve so central to the act of creation–the knowing grin that comes from messing around, stirring up mischief, and setting things on fire.   The concert will feature large scale film projections during their set.

SUPER COLOR SUPER brings Max Tundra to Korea for the first time this October 12-15th, giving his Korean fans the chance to craze out to his twitchy, mind-boggling dance tracks. He’s guaranteed to make you move like you’re up against Neo Exdeath in a dance-off. The English multi-instrumentalist has recorded three albums for the tastemakers at Britain’s Domino Records, but he got his start at age fifteen when he began composing songs on the vintage video game-consul Commodore Amiga 500. And after nearly 15 years his songs still retain that sugar-high of adolescence, recalling video-game scores and TV theme songs that bounce along tirelessly, embedding themselves in the memory of even the most stubborn listener. When asked to describe the aim of his song, he insists he has the populous in mind, commenting, “It’s for singing and whistling along to. That’s what I’d like – to walk past a building site and hear builders whistling a song of mine which they’ve heard on Radio 1”

Jacobs has toured with club-favorites like Hot Chip and Junior Boys and is himself a consummate performer. Although his sound is dense and relies on prerecorded parts, he also plays many of the melodies himself, improvising and adding new wrinkles to otherwise-familiar songs. 요즘 하루가 멀다하고 후크송(Hook Song)이 쏟아지고 있다. 그런데 이 후크송은 귀를 단순하고 반복적인 음악에만 귀를 익숙하게 만들어 그 범위를 벗어난 새롭고 다양한 음악을 받아들이기 힘들게 만든다. 근래들어 국내에도 전자음악에 대한 인기가 부쩍 높아졌다고들하나 그 역시 단순하고 반복적인 룹(Loop)을 이용한 후크송의 범주에 속하는 곡들에게만 해당 될 뿐이다. 과학의 발달로 음악을 만들고 출력하는 기술은 발전했지만 정작 사람의 귀는 퇴보하는 이런 아이러니한 상황 속에 맥스 툰드라(Max Tundra)의 음악은 발달된 음악적 기술력을 가지고 귀를 총명하게 이끌어내는 독특한 존재감을 가지는 IDM이라고 설명 할 수 있다. 가상악기와 리얼악기를 넘나드는 구성과 실험적인 다양한 소스들을 결합하여 만든1집 ‘Some Best Friends You Turned Out to Be’과 2002년에 발표한 2집 ‘Mastered by Gut at the Exchange’은 각각 피치포크 평점 9.2, 9.3점을 받으며 평단과 매니아층의 열렬한 지지를 받았으며 전자음악의 새로운 지평을 열었다. 1집과 2집의 연이은 성공 이후 6년간의 공백을 가지고 차곡차곡 준비하여 발표한 3집 ‘Parallax Error Beheads You’는 전작들에 비해 단조롭고 이질적인 느낌을 주지만 그동안의 공백기가 무색할 정도의 퀄리티와 센스로 대중들까지 사로잡았다. 3장의 앨범으로 완벽하게 자신의 음악세계를 구축한 맥스 툰드라는 Franz Ferdinand, Pet Shop Boys등 유명 뮤지션들의 리믹스 작업을 하며 다시 한번 그 실력을 인증 받기도 했다. 노래가 어디로 어떻게 흘러가는지 종잡을 수 없지만 결코 빠져나오고 싶지 않은 미로 같은 음악이 바로 맥스툰드라만의 음악이다. 세상에서 가장 신나는 미로를 이번 SCS를 통해 내한공연에서 체험하길 바란다.

Seoul’s most unique series, The Round Robin, hosted by concert-impresarios and art collective Super Color Super, comes to Gwangju. The Round Robin event features the following ecstatic concept: bands setup around the edge of the of the room, with the audience stays in the middle, bands play a song at a time in rotation. Perfume Genius(Mike Hadreas)는 이제 막 20대 중반을 지났지만 그의 인생은 뒤틀리고 고통스런 경험과 기억들로 가득하며 그 누구보다도 삶의 어두운 면과 끊임없이 마주해야했던 청년이다. “나는 지금까지 나와 내 가족, 그리고 친구들에게 일어났던 모든 일들로부터 숨어 지내는 인생을 살아왔다.”  그리고 그는 덧붙인다.  “약물 중독,학대,자살 등 의 수많은 사건들을 직면하는 것은 내게 견딜 수 없는 일이었다.”
2010년,그는 자신을 에워싼 어두움에서 벗어나 세상으로 조심스러운 한 발짝을 내딛는다.

It is one challenge to be pulled into the abyss; it is another to distill the abyss into a heart-gripping scent. Mike Hadreas, the mastermind behind Perfume Genius, led a battered and bruised life of confronting addictions, loss, molestation and manipulation. Only when he hit rock bottom and moved back to his mother’s house did he begin to examine his life. Diving into the gaping scars, Hadreas embarked on healing through introspective songwriting. His self-remedy blossomed into Learning, a record of haunting personal memoirs told in a series of bare-boned piano ballads.

SUPER COLOR SUPER unravels Perfume Genius’ first tour in Korea on September 15th and 16th. The emerging Matador Records (Sonic Youth, Pavement, Yo La Tengo) artist’s tour has been lauded as a heart-staining performance of honesty and resilience. He’s bound to leave a choking smear here as well.
