비평가들의 극찬을 받는 2인조 밴드 BEACH HOUSE 가 네 번째 앨범 ‘Bloom’ (Sub-Pop Records) 의 발매와 함께 1월, 첫 단독 내한 공연을 갖는다. 이 듀오는 복잡한 감정들을 군더더기 없는 방식으로 표현해내는 달콤하고 매혹적인 드림 팝 노래들로 또 한 번 팬들에게 청각적 선물을 선사한다.

Beach House의 음악적 성향은 지난 6년간 흔들림 없는 일관성을 유지해왔다. 이번 새 앨범의 한 가지 변화가 있다면 프로덕션의 퀄리티와 결성 이후 이들에게 쏟 아진 극찬들로 인해 두 멤버들의 자신감이 그 어느 때보다도 한껏 고조되어있다는 점이다.
이들은 새로운 음악을 낼 때마다 그 전보다 더욱 좋은 평가를 받아왔다. 2006년에 발매된 이들의 데뷔앨범은 같은 해 Pitchfork가 선정한 최고의 앨범 16위에 랭크되었다. 이 밴드는 Fleetwood Mac 과 종종 비교되며 Legrand 의 허스키한 음색은 Nico와 Opal의 Kendra Smith 의 그것과 비교될 만큼 매력적이라는 평을 받아왔다.

그들의 최신작, Bloom 은 안정적이고 프로그램화 된 드럼, Alex Scally의 슬라이드 기타, 그리고 Victoria Legrand의 깊은 천상의 목소리가 완벽하게 한데 어우러져있다. 한 시간 동안 향수를 불러일으키는 멜로디가 고스란히 담긴 음악을 느낄 수 있다. 볼티모어를 기반으로 한 이 듀오는 “말로 설명할 수 없는 감정들(Chicagoist)” 을 위한 노래를 창작하는 데에 있어 그 누구도 흉내낼 수 없는 자신들만의 능력을 가지고 있다. Legrand 는 행복과 갈망, 그리고 상심한 마음들에 대해 낮은 목소리로 노래한다. 앨범 타이틀 ‘Bloom’에 대해 Legrand 는 그것이 여행이라고 말한다. 꽃은 영원하지 않을지라도… 그 잠깐의 순간 속에 모든 격렬함, 색깔, 아름다운 삶의 덧없는 환상이 모두 들어가 있다.

Critically-acclaimed favorites BEACH HOUSE are making their first ever Korean show in January[U1] . With the release of their fourth album, Bloom (Sub-Pop Records) the duo has once again gifted fans with sweet, hypnotic dream pop songs that are simple in arrangement while complex in emotion.
BEACH HOUSE’s sound has stayed consistent over their 6 years of music-making. The only change evident on their new release is the quality of the production and the confidence of the pair, neither of which are a surprise after the glowing reviews they’ve received since their formation. These positive reviews have only gotten better and better with each release. Their debut album was #16 on Pitchfork’s Best Album List in 2006, with each proceeding album making its way onto the list as well. The band has drawn comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, and Legrand’s husky vocals have been likened to those of Nico as well as Kendra Smith of Opal.
The sound of their newest, Bloom, is a mix of steady, programmed drums, Alex Scally’s slide guitar, and Victoria Legrand’s deep, ethereal voice meshing together perfectly. The result is an hour of beautiful, nostalgia-inducing melodies. The Baltimore-based duo BEACH HOUSE has a knack for writing songs that can[U2] “communicate indescribable emotions” (Chicagoist).
