Alex Hungtai, the 32 year-old Taiwanese-Canadian behind Dirty Beaches, took the blogosphere by storm with his first full-length release Badlands in 2011. Dirty Beaches gets to the heart—or rather, the dark, grimy underbelly—of themes like longing and loneliness. Hungtai’s voice sounds like he’s channeling the ghost of a 1950’s rockabilly. Dirty Beaches’ decaying, reverb-haunted beauty evokes the celluloid hallucinations of films by David Lynch, Wong Kar-Wai, and Terrence Mallick. The Guardian UK applauds Dirty Beaches for “locat[ing] the era’s heart of darkness.” For proof, listen to atmospherics on “Speedway King,” the first track on Badlands, which he recorded in a slaughterhouse using 1950s equipment. 로-파이가 가장 사랑하는 노매드 족, Dirty Beaches 가 또 다시 그의 여정에 나선다. 그리고 이번엔, 그렇다 한국에 온다! Dirty Beaches라는 이름으로 활동하는 서른 두 살의 타이완 계 캐나다인 Alex Hungtai 는 2011년 그의 첫 번째 풀 렝쓰 앨범 Badlands 를 발매하며 수많은 블로그 포스트를 폭풍처럼 점령했다. Dirty Beaches 는 어둡고 지저분한 마음 속 깊은 곳의 갈망과 외로움에 대한 주제를 파고든다.
