From the quiet and small town of Placerville, nestled somewhere deep within the middle of northern California, comes a musician whose sound is as natural as the setting in which he lives. Daniel Trudeau, on stage known as Pregnant, has lived in the same area for 18 years and has no plans on moving anywhere else. He feels blessed to have grown up in an area with an open and accepting community, being surrounded by artists understanding the challenges of creating.

His latest album – Life Hard: I Try – was created as a celebration to his new-born daughter, and is also the first one released on his new label Mush Records. It fulfills the promise of his earlier work without losing any of the risk-taking genre mixing that makes his music so unique. Trudeau´s quirky, home-brewed folk-electronica will leave you intrigued the first time around, and the more you listen the deeper you will wander into the forests of Trudeau´s mind. Pregnant gives you the sound of something created far from art communities in metropolitan areas. Trudeau himself talks about the mass of people looking past the diversity of art and culture in the small towns in between the big cities: “There’s something special that comes from all these ‘wood’ kids…” The prime mission with his music is to capture the beauty of the woods and the feelings one evolves after spending a lot of time there. Trudeau describes his music with words such as savant, water and weirdo. He uses pedal and computer manipulation to transfer the feelings from the forest into music we can enjoy, no matter how far away from his town we are.

Seeing Pregnant perform is an illuminating delight. There´s nothing to fear in a Pregnant record and that kindness is present in their performance. Pregnant‘s willingness to combine traditional songwriting, pure vocals, and warped experimentation mark him as an act to watch. 미국 캘리포니아 깊숙히 위치한 작고 조용한 마을 플라서빌에서 온 그는 자라온 환경만큼이나 자연스러운 사운드를 가졌다. PREGNANT 라는 스테이지 이름으로 알려진 Daniel Trudeau 는 같은 곳에서 18년동안 살아왔고, 앞으로도 그 곳에 살 예정이다. 그는 개방적인 커뮤니티에서 창작의 도전을 이해하는 다른 아티스트들과 자라온 것을 축복으로 여긴다.
그의 가장 최근 앨범 ‘Life: I Try’는 갓 태어난 딸을 축하하기 위해 만들어졌으며, 그의 새 레이블 Mush Records에서 최초로 발매한 앨범이다. 그의 전 작품들로부터의 기대를 져버리지 않으면서도 리스크를 걸며 장르를 넘나 드는 점이 그의 음악을 특별하게 만든다. Trudeau 그 자신은, 대중들이 대도시들 사이 사이에 있는 작은 마을들의 예술적 다양성을 너무 쉽게 지나쳐 본다고 이야기한다: “ ‘숲’의 아이들에게서는 특별한 무언가가 있다…” 그의 음악의 주 목적은 숲의 아름다움과 그 곳에서 오랜 세월 지내며 발달한 감정들을 표현하기 위함이다. 트루도는 자신의 음악을 savant (학자), water (물), weirdo (괴짜) 등으로 표현한다. 우리가 비록 그의 마을에서는 멀리 떨어져 있을지 몰라도, 그는 페달과 컴퓨터 조작으로 숲의 느낌을 우리에게 직접 전달해준다.
