Since 2001, Toronto-native indietronic darling Shaw-Han Liem, has been releasing some of the most beautifully organic ambient albums under his stage moniker I am Robot and Proud (IaRaP). IaRaP ‘s signature sound of meticulously arranged electropop melodies have earned him tours with bands such as The Constantines, Printed Circuit, Marumari, Ariel Pink, and The Unicorns.
The audio coloration of IaRaP ‘s works, always bright, uplifting, and styled with uptempo beats, also flow with real human sentiments and emotions with details lurking beneath its primary-color laden glossy surface. The songs are intricate but ultimately feel lighter and lighter to the listen, ultimately pulling some of the weight off their sneaker and carrying them an inch or two into the air.
A regular figure in the indie scene, having worked with Shugo Tokumaru, Lullatone, and Oorutaichi among others, IaRaP also works in the innovative sound field. Recently IaRaP made music for the award winning Mobile game Sound Shapes as sound & music designer. Also, Liem has been participant in the global launch of the collaboratively conceived Tenori-On electro pad by media designer Toshio Iwai and Yamaha.
This will be IaRaP’s second tour of South Korea with SuperColorSuper, on his last visit a few TV stars made appearances at his Seoul gig!

캐나다 토론토 출신 일렉트로닉 아티스트 Shaw-Han Liem은 2001년 데뷔 이래 I am Robot and Proud(IARAP)라는 이름으로 활동하며, 아름답고 신비한 음악들을 선보여 온 실력파 뮤지션이다.
작은 업 템포 비트와 절묘한 조화를 이루는 IARAP 고유의 밝고 경쾌한 일렉트로닉 멜로디는 다정하게, 또 부드럽게 듣는 이들의 감성을 자극한다. 그의 곡 저변에는 알록달록한 신디음과 서정적인 어쿠스틱 기타 사운드가 흐르고, 멋들어진 색소폰과 맑은 플룻의 음색도 간간이 들을 수 있는데, 적절한 아날로그와 디지털 사운드의 조화는 싱그러운 봄의 햇살처럼 자극적이지 않으면서도 건강한 음악을 만들어내고 있다.
그가 발표한 4개 앨범 중 2008년 발표한 ‘Uphill City’는 일본 iTunes 일렉트로닉 차트 1위를 거머쥐며, 수 차례의 라이브 공연 매진을 기록했다. 독특한 가치를 인정받은 그의 음악은 Apple과 Adidas의 캠페인에 활용되었으며, 선댄스 영화제의 독립영화 “Centre Cities”에 삽입되었다. 또한 그는 Yellow Magic Orchestra(YMO)의 Yukihiro Takahashi, Caribou, Ghostly International, The Unicorns 등 다양한 아티스트들 및 레이블과의 음악 작업과 더불어 북미, 유럽, 아시아 지역을 함께 투어하며 많은 사랑을 받았다. IARAP는 Four Tet 등 아티스트들이 애용하는 Yamaha의 일렉트로 패드 Tenori-On 을 공연과 음반작업에 활용하면서 인터랙티브 음악의 역사에 한 획을 긋고 있기도 하다. 2010년 SuperColorSuper를 통해 내한했던 Shaw Han은 보다 풍성하고 여전히 예측 불허한 긍정적 일렉트로닉 사운드와 함께 올 가을 한국을 다시 찾을 예정이다.
