축복받은 꿈 속의 일렉트로닉 음악, 때때로 폭발하는 별들의 섬광 속에서 들릴 것만 같은 전자음의 향연, 그리고 다양한 악기들의 콜라주로 빚어낸 Gold Panda의 음악이 주목받기 시작한 것은 2009년 부터이다. 그는 자신의 블로그에 “Quitters Raga” 를 포함한 몇몇의 자작곡들을 업로드했고, 머지 않아 Pitchfork가 선정한 2010년의 최고의 트랙 100에서 23위를 차지하는 초고속 상승 행진을 밟아왔다.
그러나 이처럼 짧은 기간 동안 지금의 자리에 오를 수 있었던 것은 그가 충분히 주목받을 만한 퀄리티의 음악을 만드는 뮤지션이기 때문이다. 그가 사용하는 악기는 Akai MPC2000XL 이며,이 기계는 버튼 하나로 예전에 녹음된 소리들을 재구성하여 음악을 만들 수 있도록 돕는다.
Gold Panda는 이 기계를 통해 단순한 샘플링 작업이 아닌, 자기 자신에게 특별한 의미가 있는 소리들을 사용하여 음악을 만드는 드문 뮤지션이다.음악에 대한 그의 진지함과 섬세함은 Simian Mobile Disco, Bloc Party 등 이 소속된 영국의 Wichita Recordings와 계약을 이루어낸다.페스티벌 라인업에서 제법 굵은 폰트로 표시되는 뮤지션들과 어깨를 나란히할 준비를 마치게 된 것이다.

2011년 SCS를 통한 그의 첫 내한공연에는 500여명의 관객이 입장하여 그의 대단한 인기를 입증한 바 있다. 2년간의 기다림 끝에 평단의 찬사를 받은 새 앨범 ‘Half of Where you Live’를 들고 온 그를 다시 한 번 한국에서 만날 수 있게 되었다. 이번 공연 역시 발디딜 틈 없는 Gold Panda 식 광란의 밤이 될 것이다.

Hailing from London with a specialty in studying Japanese sounds, Gold Panda is the electronic producer and gentleman explorer responsible for the golden, wistfully evocative sound behind his critically-acclaimed 2010 debut release, Lucky Shiner. Gold Panda’s compositions have been described as a “ravishing opium dream…trying to recreate the exoticism of a long trip abroad through a prolonged period of narcosis” (NME). Blissed-out and dreamy, occasionally blooming into star-bursts of plinking electronic trills or collages of instrumental rhythm, Gold Panda has only been on the musical radar since 2009, when he self-released several 7” records and singles–including “Quitters Raga,” uploaded to his blog and then landing on Pitchfork’s Best of tracklist for that year. However, in that short period of time, he’s managed to garner some much-deserved attention and is currently signed to UK independent label Wichita Recordings (some label-mates include Best Coast, Simian Mobile Disco, and Bloc Party).
In 2011’s show- over 500 fans came out and Gold Panda‘s star has only been rising. Returning to Seoul to support his critically-beloved new album Half of Where you Live , this show promises to be totally jammed.
