종종 언론에서 볼 수 있는 거침없는 모습, 그러나 그것을 무색케 할 정도로 강렬한 음악성을 지닌 애틀란타 출신 밴드 DEERHUNTER는 직접적인 소음을 이용한 뒤, 그것을 끝없이 계속되는 lo-fi 멜로디로 전환시키는 것으로 유명하다. 2001년에 결성된 이 밴드는 핵심 멤버 Bradford Cox, Lockett Pundt, 그리고 Moses Archuleta 로 구성되어 있으며 다채로운 사운드와 함께 평론가들의 극찬을 받는 음반들을 꾸준히 내놓으며 두터운 매니아층을 형성하는 데 성공했다.
 
Halcyon Digest(2010)는 많은 인디 팬들에게 일종의 돌파구적인 음반으로 기억되는 명반이다. “Earthquake”와 “Helicopter” 같은 곡들은 초자연적인 분위기를 유지함과 동시에 보컬 Bradford Cox이 선사하는 의식의 흐름의 기법을 사용한 가사들로 초현실적인 느낌을 자아낸다. TV on the Radio, Smashing Pumpkins, 그리고 The Yeah Yeah Yeahs와 같이 유명한 밴드들의 오프닝 무대를 맡기도 했던 Deerhunter는 자신들의 음반을 홍보하는 데 상당히 만족스런 결과를 거뒀다. 가장 최근작 Monomania는 개러지 락의 강렬한 기습과 같은 사운드로 팬들과 비평가들을 동시에 만족시켰다.
 
늘 호기심이 많은 Bradford Cox의 재능은 DEERHUNTER활동에서뿐만 아니라 솔로 아티스트로서도 보여진다. 그의 사이드 프로젝트 Atlas Sound는 뇌리를 떠나지 않는 선율, 둔탁한 일렉트로닉 리듬, 그리고 그의 DIY 적인 태도 덕분에 커다란 화제를 낳았다. 또 다른 멤버 Lockett Pundt의 솔로 프로젝트 Lotus Plaza는 종종 Wild Nothing의 천상의 아름다움과 비교되며 슈게이저들 사이에서 못지 않은 화제를 일으켰다.
 
SUPER COLOR SUPER는2013년 12월, 많은 이들이 기다려온 밴드 DEERHUNTER의 국내 첫 내한 공연을 준비했다. 이들이 여러분의 눈 앞에서 만들어낼 순도 100%의 DEERHUNTER적인 사운드와 팀의 프론트 맨 Bradford Cox의 기이할 정도로 인상적인 라이브를 기대해도 좋다.

Often outspoken in press but powerful enough to back it up, Atlanta’s DEERHUNTERhave founded a career upon harnessing the immediacy of noise, then converting it into grinding lo-fi melodies. Formed in 2001, core members Bradford Cox, Lockett Pundt, and Moses Archuleta have managed to organically develop a cult following by producing a steady stream of sonically varied–and critically acclaimed– releases.
 
2010’s Halcyon Digest served as a breakthrough release for the southern indie rockers–Songs like “Earthquake” and “Helicopter” maintain an otherworldly ambiance while front man Bradford Cox waxes surreal with his stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Having opened for such luminaries as TV on the Radio, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, DEERHUNTER turned quite a few hungry heads while supporting the album. The recent follow-up Monomania has pleasantly greased fans and critics with seething garage rock blitz.
 
The always-curious singer Bradford Cox’s talents lie not only within the collective synergy of DEERHUNTER, but also as a solo artist. His Atlas Sound side project has garnered a far-reaching buzz for its haunting soundscapes, chugging electronic rhythms, and DIY attitude. Lockett Pundt’s solo project, Lotus Plaza, has similarly made waves within the indie set for its shoegazer aesthetic; a sound that has been often compared to the ethereal charm of Wild Nothing.
